First Year Teacher Grant for PK-12 Teachers of Mathematics.

ICTM's Marilyn Zweng Memorial Fund Committee has a First Year Teacher grant ($300 or $500) for teachers new to the teaching profession and teaching any level of math in Iowa. Please forward this info to new hires and administrators in your district. Applications are due August 15.

Iowa Math PD this Summer 

1. Teaching for Impact Training is June 13 - 14; registration deadline is midnight on June 5. To view detailed information about the content offered, please visit Sched and the Teaching for Impact registration site. 

2. The Iowa Department of Education's Math Training for Early Childhood & Elementary Educators on "The Surprising Importance of Early Math–for Everyone" will be June 15 in Des Moines. Join presenters Doug Clements and Julie Sarama, check out Learning and Teaching with Learning Trajectories, and register here!

3. The Iowa Department of Education's Math Training for Middle & High School Educators on "A Deep Dive into Mathematics Tasks: Understanding what Students Know" will be June 15 in Des Moines. Join presenters Anne Foegen and Barbara Dougherty, check out Algebra Screening and Progress Monitoring, and register here! 

4. ICTM's Professional Learning Series on Basic Fact Fluency is starting on July 1 with a webinar, "Building Fact Fluency through Mathematical Storytelling", featuring Graham Fletcher who will share the most recent research and recommendations for fact fluency instruction. Sign up today! 

5. Summer 2023 Mathematics Standards July 17th, 18th or 19th. Understand the current structure and shifts in the mathematics standards, implications for student achievement, and the best way to be prepared for the revised standards. Intended audience: administrators and mathematics leaders such as specialists and coaches. More information.
   

6. The Iowa Department of Education's Mathematics Leadership/Coaching Training is 9am - 3pm, August 3 - 4. During this training, attendees will be able to understand the current structure and shifts in the mathematics standards, implications for student achievement and the best way to be prepared for the revised standards. Intended audience: administrators and mathematics leaders such as specialists and coaches. NCTM Events and Resources

1. Registration for the NCTM 2023 Annual Meeting & Exposition is now open! Join NCTM this fall in Washington, D.C., October 25 - 28 and get inspired by industry experts, learn from likeminded individuals, network with peers, and more. Get a head start on your professional development with the Preconference Workshops.

2. The Call for Proposals for the 2024 Regional Conference & Exposition in Seattle, February 7 - 9, 2024, is now open for submissions. View the conference strands and proposal submission guidelines, then submit your proposal by June 15.

3. Upcoming NCTM Classroom Conversations (30 minute webinars highlighting NCTM resources): 

   • June 8: Let's Go Fly a Kite! will feature Joe Bolz and his students as they learn about properties of solids and dilations to construct kites using NCTM’s Illuminations lesson Tetrahedral Kites.
   • July 13: Problems Involving the Number 100 for the (Almost) One Hundred Days of Summer will explore several problems from One Hundred Problems Involving the Number 100 that cover various topics and grade bands.

 Research in Educational Psychology

Help a doctoral candidate collect data on math teacher's likelihood of recommending students for subject-specific acceleration (moving to a higher level in mathematics). More information about the researcher & the project can be found here. Take the survey (15 minutes).
